artist statement

I've had the opportunity through my job to organize a lot of art sales, working with hundreds of students and alumni of RISD, and I've been involved in a couple of biennials and other exhibitions. Curating appeals to me, bringing together my love of organizing, desire to support other artists, and interest in art as experience.

bio

I was born in Marlton, New Jersey, a working class town close enough to Philadelphia for decent access to bands and clubs.

I started drawing and playing guitar... I went to my local college and studied electro-optics... I worked as an electrician for a while.

I left New Jersey when I was 21, spent a few months on the road, and made my way to San Francisco. After a few years I started working in the hotel business, which moved me around the country - San Jose, Colorado Springs, Connecticut, Boston, New Mexico, Newport. Along the way I took up mountainbiking, sketched a lot, had 2 kids, saw the country...

When I got to Rhode Island, I stopped. I quit my job and took some time. I volunteered for Very Special Arts, assisting adults with development disabilities in an arts program at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum. Providence is filled with artists, arts organizations, life-long education opportunities, and a lively community. It felt like home. I started working at RISD in February 2003.

After a few years of continuing-ed classes, I decided to go to school to pursue a degree in Fine Art. Piecing together night classes at the community college, I am developing my creative practice and exploring my art - both as an individual as a a collaborator, with my partner Caitlin. It's a good life...
